“Bug bite” can mean both stings and bites from many different types of creatures, such as spiders, mosquitoes, and bugs. says it’s hard to say how common it is because most bites aren’t serious and aren’t reported. However, the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology says that between 1.6% and 5.1% of people in the US have life-threatening allergic reactions to insect stings, and that stings cause 72 deaths every year in the US.
