Can a vibrating capsule provide relief from constipation?

Chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC) is a long-lasting disorder that affects about 35 million Americans. It makes it challenging to have regular bowel movements, and they may not happen at all. People with CIC usually use over-the-counter laxatives and stronger prescription drugs, as well as make modifications to their lives, such as drinking more water and eating more fiber. Vibrant, a capsule that vibrates and encourages bowel movements, has the potential to help people who have severe constipation.

The FDA approved Vibrant, a vibrating capsule that facilitates bowel movement, for sale in 2022. This is one of the innovative ways to treat chronic constipation. A new study in gives us a better look into how safe Vibrant is. The study used data from six trials with 800 people with CIC who took either the Vibrant capsule or a placebo tablet that looked like it.

The most prevalent adverse gastrointestinal events that happened in the trials were bloating and abdominal discomfort, which impacted 2.9% of the participants; nausea, which occurred in 2.3%; and diarrhea, which affected 1.9%. As far as board-certified gastroenterologist Pratima Dibba, MD, of Medical Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵ, can tell us, there really isn’t enough evidence to establish whether the Vibrant pill is better than other popular prescription diarrhea drugs.
